Peter and Sam discuss the thirteenth episode of Top Chef Season 14, "Trial by Fire." This episode brings us closer to the roots of Mexico and Mexican cuisine in the form of the habenero quickfire challenge which not only tested their ability to tame the spice but also their ability to speak Spanish. The elimination challenge takes the Cheftestants deep into the roots of Mayan cuisine as they much cook over an open flame with only their knives to fight their way into the finale.
This week we break down why fruit and meat/savory is actually overplayed, how roasted shrimp head salt is both smart and delicious, and why this season ISN'T the best ever (aka what were the producers thinking?).
Peter's recipe of the week is a surprise dish with meat and fruit.
